LONDON, October 22, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – British Prime Minister Gordon Brown wants same-sex civil partnerships performed at the Houses of Parliament, saying it is unfair that only heterosexual couples can marry inside the Palace of Westminster.
Brown says he wants the historic Westminster building to be used more “inclusively.”
Speaking at the recent Speaker's Conference, Brown said, “Just as marriages can take place in the House, we hope Mr Speaker will consider that civil ceremonies could take place here.”
The Speaker's Conference was formed to “consider, and make recommendations for rectifying, the disparity between the representation of women, ethnic minorities and disabled people in the House of Commons and their representation in the UK population at large,” according to the UK parliament website.
MPs, peers and parliamentary officials are allowed to use St Mary Undercroft, the 14th-century crypt chapel in Westminster Hall, for their family weddings and christenings; but since Church of England rules say only the union of a man and a woman can be celebrated by a minister in a church, Brown suggested same-sex civil ceremonies could take place in other Westminster buildings, such as Westminster Hall, or the official residences of the Speaker and the Lord Chancellor.
“Parliament overwhelmingly backed civil partnerships, so it would make sense for them to be allowed in the House,” openly homosexual Minister of State for Europe Chris Bryant told the Daily Mail.
Brown has been promoting the homosexual agenda, under the guise of equality, tolerance and fairness, in Britain and abroad since he came into power in 2007 after former Prime Minister Tony Blair stepped down.
Speaking to the homosexual news service PinkNews shortly after his appointment, Brown promised that his government would “play its full part in changing attitudes” in order to normalize homosexuality.
“There is more to do and I can promise this Government will continue to do all it can to make Britain a fairer and more tolerant place,” Brown said.
