LONDON, Aug 17, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Scotland Yard’s new Policing Diversity Handbook instructs police officers in Britain to call homosexuals “gays” and “lesbians” since the term ‘homosexual’ was “a medical term used to criminalise lesbians, gay men and bisexuals (LGB) in the nineteenth century.” According to London’s Independent, the guidelines are to be circulated to 35,000 Metropolitan Police officers and civilian staff next month. It in essence tells officers to become be pro-homosexual activists having them “question and challenge wherever possible” the “myths and stereotypes” around gay communities, which according the guide include the “myth” that homosexuals contract HIV more often than heterosexuals.

“The reality is that infection rates of HIV are higher among the heterosexual community than among the gay community,” claims the manual. The manual also addresses sensitivity to bisexuals, transsexuals and transvestites.
