WASHINGTON, November 21, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Dr. W. David Hager, a pro-life obstetrician under consideration by the Bush administration to head the Food and Drug Administration’s Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee, says he wants the abortifacient RU-486, or Mifeprex, recalled—based on safety considerations and inadequate testing rather than his views on abortion.  Hager has made no secret of the fact that he thinks the FDA flouted the normal drug approval process in hastily approving RU-486 in September 2000. Dr. Donna Harrison, speaking for the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), agrees: “FDA, in approving Mifeprex, acted in a manner inconsistent with its statutory authorization, regulations and well-established policies. The approval of Mifeprex was … arbitrary, capricious [and] an abuse of discretion,” said Harrison. “It must be reversed.” If the Senate’s new Republican majority can confirm Hager next year, that may happen.  For CNS News coverage see:  https://www.cnsnews.com/Politics/archive/200211/POL20021120a.html
