WASHINGTON, July 26 (LifeSiteNews.com) – US Presidential hopeful George Bush has selected former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney as his running mate. The choice has enraged abortion supporters, but was welcomed by pro-lifers. The National Right to Life Committee noted that Cheney has voted 100% pro-life on 27 roll calls rated as key pro-life votes. Cheney has expressed support for a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution to guarantee the right to life of all human beings, regardless of their stage of development. He also opposes any legislation that would facilitate or permit assisted suicide.

In related news, AP reports that conservative US Presidential candidate Alan Keyes has dropped out of the race and is supporting George Bush. Keyes said he supports Bush’s choice of former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney as his vice-president, adding that Cheney’s anti-abortion views mirror his own. He said he would join other Republicans to unite behind Bush at the party’s convention in Philadelphia next week.
