WASHINGTON, January 6, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – One member of US President George W. Bush’s panel of judicial appointees, previously blocked from the appointment, has been named to the White House staff.  Claude Allen was named Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, as announced by White House press secretary Scott McClellan Wednesday. Allen currently serves as Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services. Democrats filibustered Allen’s judicial appointment last year; he was one of 10 nominees out of 34 blocked by the Democrats.

Allen is a strong proponent of abstinence-based sex education. As Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services, Allen pushed for a doubling of spending for abstinence-oriented sex education.

Encouraging young people and young adults to abstain is the only appropriate initial strategy, to fighting HIV/AIDS, Allen said at the close of the 2003 National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta. Delaying sexual debut is the first message they should hear, he added.  Other judicial nominees blocked by the Democratic filibuster, may soon be re-nominated, the White House also said.  See related coverage: https://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2005/01/06/blocked_judicial_pick_is_now_bush_adviser/
