SOUTH BEND, September 19, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg finally broke his silence Wednesday on the discovery of the bodies of 2,246 aborted babies at the home of notorious and recently deceased abortionist Ulrich Klopfer, claiming the situation was “disturbing” but shouldn’t reflect on the legality of abortion.
Klopfer died on September 3 at age 75. For decades he was an abortionist at The Women’s Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana until his medical license was suspended in 2016 for a history of violations including failure to report the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office announced last week that a Klopfer family attorney had notified the county coroner’s office “that while going through the doctor’s personal property they discovered what appeared to be fetal remains and requested that the Will County Coroner’s Office provide proper removal.” Authorities subsequently found and removed “2,246 medically preserved fetal remains.”
The Sheriff’s Office does not currently believe Klopfer committed abortions on the property, so the bodies may have been transferred from Indiana to Illinois. The attorneys general of both states will be working together on the investigation.
The case has potential ramifications for the pro-abortion Buttigieg, who is running in the Democrat presidential primary. As mayor he defended other scandal-plagued abortion centers in the area such as Whole Woman’s Health Alliance (WWHA), whose Texas locations were found in 2017 to have committed violations including rusty equipment, failing to properly disinfect and sterilize instruments between use, lacking proper written operation procedures, improper storage of hazardous chemicals, unsanitary surfaces, failing to follow up with patients, holes in the floor, and more.
After several days of ignoring inquiries from multiple media outlets, Buttigieg finally commented on the story Wednesday.

“Like everyone, I find the news out of Illinois extremely disturbing, and I think it’s important that it be fully investigated,” he told WSBT. “I also hope it doesn’t get caught up in politics at a time when women need access to healthcare. But there’s no question that what happened is disturbing, it’s unacceptable, and it needs to be looked into fully.”
Pro-lifers responded by noting it was unclear what exactly would be “disturbing” about the situation from a perspective that rejects preborn personhood and considers killing those babies in the first place to have been “healthcare.”
Mayor Pete says of the discovery of the 2246 aborted babies,

“Of course, Buttigieg hopes it ‘doesn’t get caught up in politics,’ because he would be the one ensnared,” The Federalist’s Margot Cleveland opined. “After all, South Bend was the home of one of Klopfer’s three Indiana abortion facilities, the Women’s Pavilion, which Klopfer operated for some 40 years before losing his license to practice medicine…it is hard to spin thousands of preserved dead baby body parts as ‘women’s health care’ when your city is swarming with state and federal officials.”
Buttigieg is currently in fourth place among the 2020 Democrat field with 5.8 percent in RealClearPolitics’ polling average.
