(LifeSiteNews) — A county board of supervisors in California has voted to block library staff from recognizing or celebrating LGBT “Pride Month” in county library branches.
The Fresno County Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 2 this week to reject a library staff member’s request to operate an informational booth following Fresno’s annual pride parade.
During the hearing leading up to the vote, supervisor Garry Bredefeld displayed a sign on his desk that said “no indoctrination of our children,” according to the Fresno Bee.
“The library now, rather than serve all members of the community in an unbiased fashion, has chosen to become advocates and promote a political agenda that many don’t support,” said Bredefeld.
The library “should never be about promoting a political agenda for indoctrinating young, innocent, and very impressionable children who accept the lifestyle or political agenda they have absolutely no business promoting,” explained Bredefeld.
“These items stray into inappropriate and unwelcome advocacy,” Clovis mayor pro tem Diane Pearce said, according to a report by KFSN.

One man who spoke said he has two gay brothers but was not supportive of their sexuality.
“I never thought they should be punished, but anyone who harmed them should be punished,” he said. “However, homosexuality is a sin. There’s no argument against that.”
“Do you want to make something for Christian month or something else?” asked another man during the hearing. “We need to stop dividing. We need to stop doing special things for one group.”
The Fresno Bee noted:
Critics of the Pride displays at local libraries have complained that books with LGBTQ+ themes around sexuality and gender are often placed at the front entrance during Pride, describing them as ‘in my face,’ as more than one public speaker said during Tuesday’s meeting.
Libs of TikTok declared the move by Fresno’s Board of Supervisors to be a “MASSIVE WIN.”
“This comes after a drag queen teacher showed up to the meeting demanding that libraries be kept as LGBTQ ‘safe spaces,’” Libs of TikTok said. “Taxpayer-funded libraries should not be a space for grooming kids!”
