MARKHAM, Ontario, September 29, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada has issued an urgent request to Churches and all people of faith to pray for marriage in Canada. Beginning October 6, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on the marriage reference questions. The EFC is calling all Christians to prayer in advance of this hearing.  Following the hearing, the Supreme Court will consider the questions and write their decision within two to six months. The EFC urges everyone to keep this issue in your prayers during this time.  The EFC has compiled a list of intentions and individuals to pray for, including:

“Pray for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, whose staff will be giving resources to MP’s and parliamentary staff, and working to encourage those who are risking their political careers to take a stand on marriage.”“Pray for the lawyers as they prepare. Many organizations are intervening on the side of the historic meaning of marriage. Pray that our arguments may be true, reasonable and coordinated. Pray for spiritual protection of the lawyers, their staff and their families. EFC Lawyers defending traditional marriage before the Supreme Court are Peter Jervis and Brad Miller. We can pray that God will give the words they need to speak in this circumstance.”“Jesus teaches us to pray for our opponents as well. Pray that those who are preparing arguments for same-sex marriage may discover the importance of maintaining the original institution.”“Pray for the government which is currently supporting the re-definition of marriage, that they would become convinced that they have taken the wrong side in this issue.”“Pray for the judges, that God will bless them with wisdom and insight, and that He will open their minds to the true meaning and significance of marriage.”“Pray for a fair hearing in the media, that pro-marriage voices will be given a respectful public hearing, and that an abundance of reasoned, passionate arguments for marriage will be made in the public square.”“Pray for concerned Canadians, that every person taking a stand for marriage may be perfect in love and wisdom as they do so. That every letter, protest or demonstration will be marked by grace, truth, hopefulness and joy.”  Visit the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada Web-site, at: https://www.evangelicalfellowship.ca/  tv
