HAMILTON, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — Top Canadian pro-life and pro-family group Campaign Life Coalition urged Ontario citizens to ask their representatives to reject a proposed bill that seeks to create a radical pro-LGBT “committee” to advocate for the expansion of taxpayer funded “gender affirming” healthcare surgeries and practices.

In a press release Tuesday, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) implored Ontario citizens to write the Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP) to voice their opposition to a proposed radical pro-LGBT Bill 17. The bill, introduced by left-wing New Democratic Party (NDP) MPP Suze Morrison, seeks to create a “Gender Affirming Health Care Advisory Committee” to advocate for expanding surgery options covered by taxpayers beyond just “genital” and “chest” gender reassignment, and to include “facial feminization, chest contouring, and electrolysis.”

“Once again, the LGBT lobby is trying to push their destructive agenda in Ontario,” wrote David Cooke, CLC’s campaigns manager. “Bill 17, if passed, would create a biased pro-LGBT government committee whose sole purpose would be to push the LGBT agenda in provincial health care policy. This Bill would pave the way to a radical expansion of transgender ‘healthcare’ services, with Ontario taxpayers footing the bill and gender-confused adults and children suffering the consequences.”

Bill 17 states:

The Gender Affirming Health Care Advisory Committee shall inquire into the following matters … 1. How to enhance coverage for and access to gender affirming health care for transgender, two-spirit, non-binary, intersex and gender diverse people in Ontario. 2. How to enhance coverage for and access to gender affirming and transition related prerequisites and procedures, including primary and secondary gender affirming surgeries and non-surgical transition related procedures … 6. How to expand insurance coverage for gender affirming treatments and transition related procedures not currently covered under the Health Insurance Act, including affirming facial feminization surgery, chest contouring and electrolysis … 8. How to define gender affirming health care procedures as life-saving procedures.

“This is not an objective, unbiased committee charged with determining ‘best practices,’” said Cooke in the press release. “This is a biased, stacked, politicized committee charged with coming to foreordained conclusions to suit the LGBT lobby.”

Repudiating the bill’s claim that these procedures are “life-saving,” research shows that over 84% of gender dysphoric youth come to accept their biological sex upon entering adolescence or adulthood. Consequently, many young people who have undergone attempted gender altering procedures, including drastic procedures such as double mastectomies, later come to regret their often-irreversible decisions.

“This ‘transgender desistence’ is a normal, expected, and desired outcome, avoiding all the harms associated with sex-change surgeries and artificial hormone therapies,” said Cooke. “However, under Bill 17, there is absolutely no room for desistence. The committee formed under Bill 17 must be in lock-step with the radical LGBT lobby and its ideological demands. Members must promote only ‘gender-affirming’ care, which is a code word for chemical and surgical sex-change treatments,” continued Cooke.

Despite the radical nature of the proposed bill, CLC informed its supporters that “there was no pushback from any MPP in the Doug Ford [conservative] government. There was no word of criticism or dissent.”

The MPP who drafted the bill, Morrison, stated in the Legislature that Ontario’s healthcare plan “only” covers “genital and chest” surgeries, but other “gender-confirming” surgeries such as “facial feminization” and “chest contouring” are “essential health care” and should be covered by the taxpayer.

“Let’s be clear: Ms. Morrison is talking about butchering healthy body parts just because a person ‘feels’ gender-confused!” lamented Cooke. “This is unconscionable – and it should never be paid for with tax dollars.”

In response to the proposed bill, CLC created a webpage for citizens to access that allows them to easily submit their concerns to the Members of Provincial Parliament in Ontario.

“It is vital that this NDP private member’s Bill 17 be voted down at third reading,” concluded CLC’s Cooke. “The Doug Ford government must not expand or enhance sex-change services in Ontario. They must certainly never declare them ‘life-saving.’ They are anything but.”
