OTTAWA, September 24, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) announced yesterday that Canada would be funding the abortion advocating United Nations Population Fund by an extra $4 million dollars this year in addition to its regular $10 million donation. Susan Whelan, Minister for International Cooperation, announced the funding yesterday noting that Canada “is among the first donor countries to step forward in response to a special request from UNFPA seeking member state assistance to make up an unexpected budget shortfall.”  Nowhere in the release was it mentioned that UNFPA’s shortfall has been caused by the U.S. decision to deny funding to UNFPA because of its support for China’s coercive one-child policy.
