OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — A Canadian politician has called for the documents allowing protesting truckers to work at their trade to be suspended.

Canada’s Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra encouraged the country’s provinces to suspend the commercial licenses and insurance of the thousands of truckers who are protesting in the streets throughout the country and demanding an end to the nation’s COVID-19 mandates.

The provinces have extensive regulatory powers over commercial trucking and road transportation to help end this unlawful occupation and disruptions of commercial trucks, blockading the streets and highways,” said Alghabra in a Feb. 7 press conference.

The powers could include, for example, quickly enforcing the provisions of the Ontario highway safety to begin suspending commercial licenses and also insurance of the commercial owners of the equipment blocking in the streets days on end in a city or on a highway,” he continued. “It’s clear: blockades of streets and bridges is against the law and should bring serious consequences against the owners.”

Alghabra claimed that he has listened to the concerns of the country’s truckers and their representatives, as well as the Canadian Trucking Alliance, on “real” industry problems before making his underhanded recommendations to the provinces.

The minister also claimed that all of those with whom he spoke said the protests were both undemocratic and did not express the true sentiments of Canadian truckers.

“They all told me that this occupation does not represent Canadian truckers,” said Alghabra.

“They also all said that in Canada this is not how we raise concerns and advocate for policies.”

Alghabra stated that the roadside safety inspections used to obstruct the progress of trucks going to the blockades have been successful and advocated for their further use.

Despite Alghabra’s move to frighten the freedom convoys into submission, Canada’s truckers show no sign of backing down from their demands. Even though official statements have denied that governments have been swayed by the truckers’ protests, there are clear signs that the Freedom Convoy is succeeding in dismantling the vaccine mandates produced by the nation’s ruling class.

Additionally, Alghabra’s assertions that the trucker convoys are unpopular and do not demonstrate the true Canadian spirit seem to be lost on most of the general public, who have been seen on bridge after bridge, standing in the freezing cold, cheerfully waving the truckers onward with Canadian flags, while the truckers roll in increasing numbers to re-establish Canadians’ freedom.
