OTTAWA, September 19, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Leaks of secret Alliance – Tory merger talks hit the media yesterday with anti-Alliance Tories immediately claiming the leak was an Alliance tactic to pressure new Tory leader Peter MacKay to give in.  However, even under fire from the media, MacKay refused to rule out merger altogether.  Alliance Leader Stephen Harper also acknowledged that the merger talks were underway but refused to reveal details on specifics.  Harper did say that due to the current political climate and new incoming Liberal Leader Paul Martin merger talks may have a deadline imposed.  Progressive Conservatives Don Mazankowski, Bill Davis and Loyola Hearn met with Alliance Members Scott Reid, Senator Gerry St. Germain and Ray Speaker. The name of the proposed united party would be the Conservative Party.  See the CBC coverage:  https://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/09/19/orchard030919
