OTTAWA, November 1, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – An Ottawa-area Catholic school that planned to send 52 of its students to Ohio in the final days before the U.S. presidential election, has cancelled the trip.
While the school board claimed the trip was simply an opportunity for students to “observe” the U.S. political process, the teacher leading the trip, Scott Searle, had presented it to students as a chance to help re-elect President Obama.
Searle lists “volunteer” with “Obama for America” on his LinkedIn profile for 2012.
In a one sentence update sent to LifeSiteNews.com today, an official with the Ottawa Catholic school board wrote, “Please be advised that the St. Peter/St. Matthew High School excursion to Ohio, USA has been cancelled at the school level.”
The board rejected a request for a statement elaborating on the reasons for the cancellation, explaining that the media director is currently out of town.
One Catholic mom who spoke with LSN had expressed her concern about sending Catholic students to help re-elect Obama, who is currently involved in a heated dispute with Catholic bishops and businesses over the HHS birth control mandate. The mandate requires all employers, including many religious employees, to provide contraception, abortifacient drugs, and sterilizations to their employees with no co-pay.

Obama has also earned a reputation as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history, with a lengthy record of supporting abortion-on-demand through all nine months pregnancy, including supporting partial-birth abortion.
The president has also come out in support of same-sex “marriage.”
In the days leading up to the U.S. election, several U.S. bishops have come out with statements strongly condemning the president’s anti-life, anti-family and anti-Catholic positions.
