Dion usues the same old ‘hidden agenda’ tactic – Warns Canada about Harper’s right-wing plans

“In Stephen Harper’s view, the Conservatives believe they can court centre-right voters.
“That means not only that we want to pull Canadians toward conservatism, but Conservatives also have to move toward Canadians if they want to continue governing the country,” Harper said.”
“Harper said the economy, cutting greenhouse gases, foreign policy and strengthening democratic institutions are all on his priority list. But law and order will take a top spot on the legislative agenda.”
“Harper told reporters Canadians have shifted to the right of the political spectrum but his party is moving more to the middle.”

Layton pledges increase in funding for women’s programs – Canoe News
NDP Leader Jack Layton called Stephen Harper’s government Sunday a disaster for gender issues. Layton pointed to the government’s changes last year to groups funded by Status of Women Canada – changes that included deleting the word “equality” from funding criteria. Layton also criticized a $5-million cut to the agency’s administrative budget, although the agency’s overall budget was increased by $10 million in the previous budget.
He also said the cutting of the Court Challenges Program, which funded legal battles under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, has hurt women. Layton said only a NDP government can be trusted to support women’s issues. He pledged to restore any funding for women’s groups cut by the Conservatives, and to give them an additional $120 million each year. The Conservatives say grants and contributions by Status of Women Canada are at their highest levels ever.
