AYLMER, ON, July 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – CTV News has reported that the 100+ congregants of the Church of God in Aylmer, Ontario who fled Canada fearing retribution from child welfare officials, may seek refugee status in the United States claiming religious persecution. The families fled after the children of one of the church families were seized by Children’s Aid Society officials. The children were taken after their parents refused to promise they would not spank their children with a switch.
