ALBANY, New York, October 19, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – New York State officials have decided to allow same-sex partners of public employees “married” in Canada access to full spousal benefits.  State Comptroller Alan Hevesi said, “We recognize all legal determinations from a foreign country, and they recognize ours,” in an advisory released Wednesday, according to a newsday.com report.  Spokesman for the state Catholic Conference, Dennis Poust, said the state’s bishops worry Hevesi’s ruling “will be one more piece of evidence to bolster the legal case for anyone bringing suit to challenge the state’s marriage laws.”  tv
