TORONTO, Feb 10 (LifeSiteNews) – Yesterday the BC Supreme Court ruled that British Columbia’s NDP election gag law is an unconstitutional infringement of freedom of expression and freedom of association. The National Citizens’ Coalition (NCC) used the occasion to call on the federal government to abandon its pursuit of the election gag law proposal contained in Bill C-2. A press release from Stephen Harper, president of NCC, says that Chretien’s gag law would make it a crime for citizens or groups to spend more than $3,000 in a riding. “The BC court came out so forcefully in favour of free political speech, that the federal government cannot legally or morally enforce their gag law even if it’s passed”, says Harper. “Simply put, the gag law is revealed for what it really is – an anti-democratic sham”.
