MONTREAL, May 19, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A man convicted of intentionally killing his unborn child last week was sentenced to one year in prison Tuesday. When his girlfriend refused to have an abortion, Gary Bourgeois deliberately administered an abortifacient drug to his girlfriend without her knowledge. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and to administering a toxic substance.  Quebec court Judge Jean-Pierre Bonin commented, “Society cannot tolerate a male partner in a relationship unilaterally putting an end to a pregnancy,” according to a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation report.  Fearing his reaction, the woman had delayed telling Bourgeois that she was 14 weeks pregnant. He tried to talk her into an abortion, but she refused.  Without her knowledge or consent, Bourgeois slipped a toxic ulcer medication into the woman’s vagina after sexual intercourse.

She later began experiencing cramps and bleeding, and miscarried the 14 week-old at hospital.
