Axworthy told the New York Times that there was a “national debate” in Canada about the ICC, and that the country signed on to it wholeheartedly. “We sponsored a national forum across the country . Plus we have a major Web site on the issue.” The Post points out that “actually the House of Commons debated the matter for precisely six and a half hours. The Senate dispatched the matter in a matter of minutes.” The Canadian public is known to have little, if any awareness about the ICC and the Canadian government’s giving up of national sovereignty to the court.
