(LifeSiteNews) – According to a leaked memo obtained by the Epoch Times, the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) will oblige sailors stationed at sea to take a COVID booster jab—unless they have recently contracted the coronavirus itself.

RCN Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee wrote in an unclassified memo from November 4:

My direction remains that only sailors with up to date vaccinations, defined as the primary vaccination series plus either a booster within the last 6 months or a confirmed recovery from a COVID-19 infection within the last 6 months, be employed or undergo training as a member of crew aboard HMC ships and submarines.

All RCN members who choose to forgo the booster will be posted “ashore immediately,” according to the memo. The RCN seems to be admitting natural immunity is effective, as prior infection is accepted in lieu of the shots.

The reason for the booster push is that the RCN is under the impression that jabbed sailors will not contract or spread the virus.

Topshee said: “Ships at sea have very limited access to medical care, and therefore, all those embarked should have vaccinations that are up to date.”

Despite evidence that the COVID vaccinations do not prevent transmission of the virus, the vice-admiral believes that unvaccinated sailors are a risk to others.

“The RCN cannot accept the risk to ships program that unvaccinated personnel present…” Topshee stated.

He seemed to be echoing the Canadian prime minister’s statements from the 2021 federal election campaign:  Justin Trudeau called unvaccinated Canadians a risk to vaccinated Canadians. He would not, therefore, let vaccine-free travelers board planes, trains, or ships.

The RCN attempt to ensure everyone is jabbed flies in the face of data showing that vaccinated individuals themselves are a major source of COVID spread.

The move to stop unboosted RCN personnel from serving on the open sea follows Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee’s September remarks that staffing shortages have caused a personnel ‘crisis’ in the Navy.

“We need more people. We need them as quickly as we can get them,” he told The Canadian Press.

By the updated jab policy, it seems he is not willing to recruit from the majority of Canadians who have not received a booster.
