OTTAWA, Jan 14 (LSN) – Mr. Justice Mark MacGuigan, a 66-year-old judge of the Federal Court of Appeal and former cabinet minister under Pierre Trudeau, died Monday from liver cancer.  While identifying himself as a Catholic, MacGuigan supported abortion, saying he was “personally opposed to abortion,” but that his personal beliefs should not interfere with the execution of his public office.  In a 1994 book entitled “Abortion,Conscience and Democracy,” he explained how although his faith led him to oppose abortion, religion should not shape criminal law.
