TORONTO, August 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Only three days after being released from jail Canadian pro-life hero Linda Gibbons was once again arrested outside of Scott abortuary in downtown Toronto.  Released July 28 after a judge gave her a one day sentence in addition to time served, Gibbons was arrested again on Thursday July 31.

Gibbons was arrested for violating terms of a 1994 injunction which prohibits pro-life activity within 20 metres of the abortion mill doors. Rosemary Connell, the leader of Show the Truth – a pro-life group which uses graphic signs to show the reality of abortion – was on hand at Gibbons’ arrest.

“It was a really busy morning” at the abortion centre, recalled Connell in an interview with LifeSiteNews.com.  “Nine women went in that morning and Linda was able to talk to two or three of them.”  Connell, who staged a Show the Truth demonstration that morning, recalled that Gibbons was not there long before police arrived and a sheriff presented her with a copy of the injunction.  She ripped it apart and was arrested and taken away by police. She is being held at the Vanier Centre for Women.

Her trial date is set for September 10 and her information review for August 13.

In a letter to LifeSiteNews.com Gibbons expressed her thanks for LifeSiteNews’ coverage of her case and for pro-life support outside and inside the courthouse during her trial.  She noted especially that the presence of the Show the Truth activists was a powerful witness felt by court officials.

She spoke of timidity in the courtroom, noting, “In stark contrast to the opponent gearing down the legal machinery, the pro-life presence at the trial was unapologetically bold and robust.”

“In the body of the court as well as outside at the Show the Truth street demonstration their witness was both seen and felt,” she wrote.  “A court attendant reported to the court guards ‘They are all over, outside and waiting in front of the court doors.’  She nervously warned me to not look, talk or wave at ‘any of them’.”

She ended her letter with a rousing call for more showing of the truth:

“It gave me immense satisfaction that the languid legal muscle being flexed in the court basement to weaken our public witness was at that moment being trumped by the Show the Truth dynamism above on College Park and in the courtroom.

“Kudos to those who waited on court and put shoe to pavement. (Perhaps to be known as the College Street Regulars!)

“I absolutely believe Show the Truth makes this happen.  It’s a radical human response to a radically inhuman practice.  Henry Morgentaler has stood against the blood of his neighbour and Canada has honoured him for it.

“Let us show Canada the fruits of the abortionist’s labours.  Expose, Expose, Expose.  We are our neighbour’s keeper and Canada is watching what we do.”
