OTTAWA, January 25, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Canada’s leading pro-life political lobby group is calling on Prime Minister Trudeau and the Liberal government to stop exporting their pro-abortion “values” abroad.

Campaign Life Coalition is urging Trudeau to follow President Trump’s lead and join his American neighbours in putting an end to abortion funding in the developing world.

“Our prime minister needs to realize that Canadians are deeply divided on abortion but quite united on taxpayer-funded abortion: They oppose it in great numbers. They would oppose spending their hard earned money on it elsewhere too if asked,” said CLC government relations officer Johanne Brownrigg.

“There is no moral imperative to fund abortion abroad in particular to ‘fill the gap’ created by President Trump’s implementing the Mexico City Policy,” says Brownrigg.

“The funding and promotion of abortion by North America and Europe is viewed as a new form of colonialism by many African nations.”

In a statement released Wednesday, Campaign Life lauded Saskatchewan MP Brad Trost, who is running for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, for urging the government to focus on meeting the genuine healthcare needs of women and children, rather than funding abortion.

CLC stated it hoped Trudeau would not use more precious taxpayer dollars to satisfy the agenda of a few radical pro-abortion activists.

Campaign Life also called on the Conservative Party, the official opposition, to stand up against abortion funding as they did when they were the government.

Trudeau has shown himself to be an abortion extremist eager to use Canadian money to fund the killing of unborn children in nations dependent on international aid.

Some seven months after his election, Trudeau reversed the Conservative policy to exclude abortion funding from its maternal health aid to developing nations.

“In 2016, on the eve of the National March for Life in Ottawa, as if to tell Campaign Life Coalition and all pro-life Canadians to take a hike, Trudeau decided to make his abortion funding policy official,” noted Matt Wojciechowski, Campaign Life’s representative at the United Nations.

“Millions of Canadian tax dollars are now being spent on killing the babies of poor African women. If they knew, most Canadians wouldn’t feel comfortable with that,” Wojciechowski added.

The Liberals had also announced in March 2016 they were giving $80 million to the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).

The Liberals “claim they support abortion only where it is legal and then, they hand over more than $80 million to UNFPA,”  Wojciechowski stated.

The UNFPA is a “UN entity whose raison d’etre is to depopulate the developing world through aggressive contraception and abortion campaigns and policies, not just in countries where it’s legal, but especially in countries where it is illegal,” he wrote in a CLC blog.

Indeed, the Liberal government designated the UNFPA fund towards a “long-term program to help prevent adolescent pregnancies in Honduras, and a major midwifery initiative in South Sudan” — both countries where abortion is illegal.
