OTTAWA, Dec 11 (LSN)—Canadian Secretary of State Hedy Fry joined the call yesterday for international recognition of “women's rights as human rights,” a slogan commonly understood to include the “right” to abortion, and to have those “rights” enshrined in the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration next year. Speaking in the House of Commons, Fry said, “Today we recognize the 50th anniversary of human rights in the world. Human rights are about women’s rights, and human rights are the same as said in Beijing [the UN's Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995], and women’s rights are not special interest rights.”
