OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — A Canadian military veteran said this week that Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre did not “want to hear” evidence of negative harms from his daughter’s “sex-change” mutilation before he voted in favor of a bill banning “conversion therapy” in 2021.
Jeff Evely said he spoke with Poilievre in 2021 about concerns about so-called “sex-change” transitions for children that happened to his daughter.
Evely spoke to members of Parliament in Ottawa on May 5 along with a group of activists opposed to “gender ideology” and calling for an end to gender “transitions.”
He was asked if Poilievre or another politician had any correspondence with him. Evely answered, “Zero.”
“You know, I think that because of the unanimous vote on Bill C-4, which was a whipped vote when Erin O’Toole was leader of the Conservative Party, I think they’re going to have a really hard time coming back from this and saving their careers,” he said.
“So I think that, like I said in my speech, that because the people, all the people who voted for this, they’re now the senior most MPs in the House of Commons. The rank and file don’t want to call it out for fear of losing their party status like we saw with Derek Sloan a few years ago.”
Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government banned so-called “conversion therapy” via Bill C-4 in 2021, which prohibits parents, counselors, and pastors from helping children accept their God-given bodies.
Poilievre, who was not party leader at the time, stood side by side with the Liberals and voted for Bill C-4, as did many Conservative MPs.
Conservative MPs being ‘muzzled’ by Poilievre to speak out against trans surgeries says activist
Evely said that he believes that many Conservative MPs are being muzzled when it comes to transgender issues.
“I believe so. I mentioned my own personal experience with Pierre Poilievre. I spoke to him for a half an hour on the phone on 22 January 2021. I told him all about puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, the top surgery, which is a double mastectomy that is being given to 16-year-olds in Canada, sterilizing genital mutilations for 18-year-olds, and all about my experience with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario refusing to leave my daughter alone,” he said.
“And he didn’t want to hear my recordings. He went ahead and voted for it anyway. And I mean, he’s going to have a hard time coming back from that. As we saw at the Conservative Convention earlier this year, there was a resolution on the table for the Conservatives to start opposing Bill C-4 and seeking a repeal of it. That motion was defeated.”
Bill C-4 punishes anyone helping children or others with gender confusion or unwanted same-sex attraction with jail time of up to five years. It is illegal in Canada to try and reverse a person’s orientation from homosexual to heterosexual, even if that person is an adult who is voluntarily seeking help.
Bill C-4 has been blasted as “riddled with constitutional concerns” and that it “criminalizes conversations between consenting adults seems to be entirely ignored.”
Some provinces such as Alberta have passed laws banning genital and body mutilation surgery for minors. However, the Alberta government has faced backlash from leftist activists who have tried to stop the law from being implemented.
Poilievre has a poor track record on issues of life and family, with Campaign Life Coalition having given him a “red light” rating.
Maxime Bernier, a former Conservative MP and government minister who is now the leader of the People’s Party of Canada (PPC), blasted radical “trans ideology” running amok in Canada after a biologically born male identified as a “transgender” man went on a shooting rampage in a remote Canadian town, killing eight people.
Overwhelming evidence shows that persons who undergo so-called “gender transitioning” procedures are more likely to commit suicide than those who are not given such irreversible surgeries. In addition to catering to a false reality that one’s sex can be changed, transgender surgeries and drugs have been linked to permanent physical and psychological damage, including cardiovascular diseases, loss of bone density, cancer, strokes and blood clots, and infertility.
