(LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Raymond Burke compared the sinfulness of the current age to the Biblical times of Sodom and Gomorrah in a recent interview.
Speaking with Shawn Ryan on The Shawn Ryan Show, Cardinal Burke warned that there are distinct similarities between the sexual perversion of today and Abraham’s age.
“People there began to live in a godless way and especially there was homosexual activity,” the cardinal said. “There was unnatural attraction of even the same sex, and they would even abuse people who would be passing through and offer them hospitality with the intention to abuse them sexually, to have unnatural relations with them.”

Cardinal Burke explained God told Abraham to leave Sodom and Gomorrah with Lot and so they fled to Ur of the Chaldeans, where God promised Abraham a son and from that that son would be more descendants that anyone could imagine.
“Scriptures tell us that God looked upon man and the way he was living, and he was doing everything but what God wanted,” the American cardinal said. “The Scriptures say that it made God sorry that he had made man. Because man has free will, he can go away from God. At that time, clearly, people were doing very immoral things. Well, we shouldn’t be so surprised because we have a lot of things going on in our world that are pretty terrible.”

One of those is marriage between two people of the same sex, which Cardinal Burke called a “heresy not only against the faith but against reason itself.”
“It’s very clear to me and to others that in this rebellion that has set in to society — really centuries ago but in our day — is represented by the idea that I am the author of my own being, that I have the right to decide whether I should live or not, and I have a right to change the identity that was given to me at my birth, and then in all types of ways where evil is exalted as good,” he said.
“The evil actions of men was exulted as good in defiance of God’s law. A good example is atheistic materialism or communism — to deny the law of God by enslaving people to an ideology which is contrary to the Christian faith. But we see it too in the homosexual agenda.”
Violations of human nature include sins of self-gratification and mutilation of the human body, but in the age of Sodom and Gomorrah “they didn’t have the capacity to do all these terrible surgeries to mutilate somebody, to try to make a man into a woman,” Cardinal Burke continued. “The simple way to put it would unnatural relationships or relationships that violated the unity and the indissolubility of the marital bond, or just sexual activity outside of marriage because sexual union is an expression of the exclusive bond of marriage.”
