(LifeSiteNews) — The Cardinal Newman Society will host its fifth annual Newman Guide Virtual College Fair on Thursday to help Catholic high school students and their parents navigate college choices that will not harm their faith.
The October 9 Newman Guide Virtual College Fair will provide prospective students and their parents with the opportunity to visit virtual booths of Catholic colleges that uphold Church teaching, speak with admissions representatives, explore potential scholarship options, and hear from several speakers on how to navigate their college search. Registration for the event is free, but required to attend.
“Young people are being formed in a culture more vicious than we’ve seen before. Our nation’s most prestigious universities have become bulwarks of gender ideology, transgenderism, ‘LGBTQ’ activism, and atheism,” Richard Olon, a parish “youth pastor” and one of the event’s featured speakers, said.
“Therefore, it is not hyperbole to suggest that in choosing a college, a young person is making a choice that will quite literally affect their eternal salvation,” he added.
Some of the colleges participating in the virtual college fair include Christendom College, Ave Maria University, and Belmont Abbey College.
Indeed, several purportedly Catholic colleges and universities across the U.S. have embraced “woke” ideas that contradicts Church teaching on same-sex “marriage” and gender ideology, among other issues.
Viterbo University, a Catholic university in Wisconsin, recently asked its employees to add their “preferred pronouns” to their email signatures and sponsors a pro-LGBT “Pride club.” The University of Notre Dame, the most well-known Catholic university in America, despite recently rebranding its former Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Center as the Sister Thea Bowman Center, continues to host a pro-LGBT “Gender Relations Center” and other DEI programs.
