OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — Canada’s top taxpayer watchdog group uncovered lavish spending at the hands of Prime Minister Mark Carney and his aides, showing that some $195,400 alone was spent on fancy in-flight meals for three trips.
According to records obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), Carney’s in-air dining included expensive beef tenderloin, Scottish salmon, veal, and more.
Catering menu excerpts show “Italian, Spanish and European selection of charcuterie” and a “luxury Normandy butter cup.”
“Carney spent more money on airplane food during three trips than the average family will spend on groceries in a decade,” said Franco Terrazzano, CTF’s Federal Director, in a press release.
Terrazzano said that the lavish spending on food comes at a time when the government is paying “more than a billion dollars a week to cover interest charges on the debt, it’s time to stop irresponsible overspending on luxuries like gourmet in-flight dining.”
Carney’s government has claimed that it will try to restrain spending and noted this in its latest budget, which included millions to promote abortion and euthanasia.
Large amounts of money were also spent on expensive wine when cheaper options were readily available. For example, the CTF uncovered that wine served on flights included a $55-per-bottle Le Clos Jordanne Le Grand Clos Pinot Noir 2017.
The CTF noted that the taxpayer bill of close to $200,000 came from recent trips to London, Rome, Italy, and Belgium in 2025.
The CTF called out the sheer cost of the food and drink when put into perspective with the average Canadian family’s food needs.
“For context, that in-flight catering bill could pay for a family of four to enjoy steak dinners, wine and crème brûlée at The Keg once a month for 50 years,” said the CTF.
“That catering bill could also cover a Canadian family’s groceries for more than a decade. Carney even racked up a larger in-flight catering bill than former prime minister Justin Trudeau.”
Broken down, some $93,780 alone was spent on a single flight during the recent Rome trip. The menu shows that Carney and his entourage dined on “herb and smoked gouda omelet” for breakfast with crêpes with vanilla cream and fruit compote.
“Carney has repeatedly told Canadians he would spend less, but he spent more money on airplane food than Trudeau,” noted Terrazzano.
“The prime minister shouldn’t need a focus group to recommend him to stop billing taxpayers half-a-million dollars on airplane food in one year.”
In total, since becoming prime minister, Carney has billed taxpayers to the tune of some $524,000 on airplane catering alone.
Carney’s lavish spending on in-flight meals comes at a time when, due to Liberal government overspending, money printing and a strain on the economy due to mass immigration, have resulted in Canada entered its first recession since 2020.
Canadian taxpayers are already dealing with high inflation and high taxes due in part to the overspending and excessive money printing while Liberals have admitting to giving money to Ukraine at the expense of “taxpayers.”
