MILWAUKEE, November 10, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – There was only one reference to abortion during the entire Republican primary debate, and it came almost literally at the last minute, but did it ever pack a punch.
In a heartfelt closing statement, Dr. Ben Carson said, “In the two hours of this debate, five people have died from drug-related deaths, $100 million has been added to our national debt, 200 babies have been killed by abortionists, and two veterans have taken their lives out of despair.”
“This is a narrative that we can change,” he said.
“Not we the Democrats, not we the Republicans, but we the people of America, because there is something special about this nation,” the famed neurosurgeon said.
“We must embrace it and be proud of it, and never give it away for the sake of political correctness,” he concluded.

The reference to abortion stood out in the Fox Business channel debate dedicated to economic issues.
The most recent CDC report indicates that there were 730,322 abortions in 2011. However, that is an incomplete number, because three states – California, Florida, Maryland, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Wyoming – either did not report any statistics or did not meet federal reporting standards.
Both the National Right to Life Committee and the Guttmacher Institute estimate there have been approximately 1.06 million abortions a year since 2011, or 124 abortions an hour.
Dr. Carson, who has pulled neck-and-neck with Donald Trump as the front runner for the Republican presidential nomination, receives much of his support from evangelical Christians and pro-life voters.
All eight Republican candidates in the prime time debate at 9 p.m., and all four in the “undercard” debate at 7 p.m., have promised to sign the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and enact further pro-life laws if elected president.
