TORONTO, May 10, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The momentum continues to build for the upcoming Toronto “It Is Time to Draw the Line” Defend Marriage Rally on the steps of the Ontario Legislature on Monday, May 23 (12 noon to 2 p.m.).

Equipping Christians for the Public Square Centre, in cooperation with coalition partners, The Knights of Columbus, Defend Marriage Coalition, March4Marriage and the Jubilee Centre for Christian Social Action announced Tuesday the participation of the United Front of Pakistani Canadians, represented by Imam Suleiman Yacoob of Masjid-e-Rahmat Mosque. As well, retired Toronto bishop Pearce Lacey will represent Catholics in the archdiocese. Organizers were unsuccessful in getting a commitment from either the Cardinal or one of the current Toronto region bishops to speak at the rally.

“We are honoured to have his Excellency, Bishop Lacey, attend and speak at this rally,” said ECP Centre executive director Rev. Tristan Emmanuel. Emmanuel, referring to Bishop Henry from Calgary said, “Catholic Bishops are providing leadership across Canada. Bishop Pearce Lacy and Bishop Henry represent the type of moral clarity and leadership that is so needed today. That is why we are delighted to have him, and all Catholics, join us in this monumental rally.”

“We are so pleased that Mr. Masood Khan, president of the United Front of Pakistani Canadians, has decided to stand with us,” Emmanuel added.

“It is important that we draw the line,” Rev. Emmanuel emphasized in a release. “We want Dalton McGuinty and Paul Martin to know that the large majority of Ontarians – and Canadians – will not rest until they (or another government) do the right thing and defend the only true definition of marriage, one man and one woman.”

It Is Time To Draw The Line-Toronto Defend Marriage rally will be held on Monday, May 23 (12 noon to 2 p.m.) at Queen’s Park in front of the Ontario Legislature.
