OSHAWA, April 8, 2002 (LSN.ca) – In an op-ed piece by Dr.Thomas Langan, published by LifeSite today, the Catholic Civil Rights League defends the Durham Region Catholic School Board on their decision to bar a 17-year old male student from bringing his 21-year-old “boyfriend” to the school prom. The Family Coalition Party of Ontario and the Canada Family Action Coalition have also spoken out against the media pressure on the school board.

Family Coalition Party Leader Giuseppe Gori, has pointed out that the comments on the case against the school board’s decision by Ontario Human Rights Commissioner Keith Norton were totally inappropriate. “The fact that Norton, head of the commission, would pronounce himself publicly on a case likely to be presented in front of this commission denotes the lack of sensibility and even arrogance of homosexual activists, who can afford to be irreverent of the legal process and the basic concepts of justice.” Gori also pointed out that “Norton, an openly active homosexual has been appointed by the (Ontario Progressive Conservative) government as the head” of the commission.

Canada Family Action Council Executive Director Brian Rushfeldt aimed his criticism at Canadian Auto Workers union President Buzz Hargrove who was involved in calling the school to allow the homosexual prom date. “I am certainly glad I am NOT a union member. It would disturb me deeply to have my forced wage deduction going to a union “head” that decides to promote homosexual behaviour under the guise of ‘civil rights’ and also to promote intolerance against a religion,” said Rushfeldt in a letter to the editor.
