SUDBURY, Ontario, December 13, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Catholic school board in Ontario is facing criticism over its decision to host a campaign event at one of its high schools next Friday for pro-abortion Liberal leadership contender Justin Trudeau.

The Montreal-area MP and son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau will speak to students at St. Charles College in Sudbury on December 21st.

Suresh Dominic of Campaign Life Catholics noted that Trudeau is a frequent speaker at Catholic schools and said it is a “travesty” that they continue to promote the campaign of a “radically pro-abortion Catholic.”

The Liberal MP showcased his allegiance to the abortion movement in February when he indicated he would support Quebec separatism should Canada make a move to give legal protection to children in the womb.

In June, he told an assembly of high school students that the Catholic Church’s opposition to gay-straight alliances is “repulsive.”

According to Gina Tullio, communications officer for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, Trudeau’s “people” approached them about hosting the event. She said no one at the board would be available to comment until Monday, but did note that the “scope of his talk” would be “youth leadership.”

LifeSiteNews.com asked Trudeau’s campaign why they selected a Catholic school rather than a public school venue, but officials did not respond by press time.

“How long will these Catholic schools be allowed to give this confused man a platform to advance his political career?” asked Dominic. “Mr. Trudeau has consistently and strongly opposed the right to life of the most vulnerable in our society and has even claimed there’s no inconsistency between his Catholic faith and his support of legalized abortion.”

Trudeau threw his hat into the federal Liberal leadership race in October and immediately assumed the role of presumed frontrunner.

Five other candidates have officially registered so far. The leader will be picked April 14th.

Despite his shortage of experience and perceived lack of substance, Liberal insiders have been touting his star power, with one calling him the party’s “American Idol” candidate. Observers have suggested his rise to stardom began in 2000 with a nationally-televised eulogy at his father’s funeral in Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica.

Though his father oversaw the Omnibus bill that legalized abortion in 1969, he was widely perceived as a faithful Catholic. The younger Trudeau has himself spoken publicly about his Catholic faith.

In November 2011, he complained to media after Tory MP Dean Del Mastro questioned why he was so frequently invited to Catholic schools even though he openly opposes basic Catholic moral teachings.

Trudeau said he was “surprisingly upset” someone would accuse him of being a “bad Catholic.” “My own personal faith is an extremely important part of who I am and the values that I try to lead with,” he told the Canadian Press at the time.

On top of his promotion of legal abortion, Trudeau openly supports same-sex “marriage”, is a regular participant in Gay Pride parades, and has been a guest speaker for the homosexual lobby group Egale.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is overseen by Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie.

LifeSiteNews alerted him to the Trudeau event Thursday afternoon, but the diocese did not respond by press time.
