BOSTON, October 28, 2002 (lifesitenews.com) – Holy Cross, a small Jesuit liberal arts college in Worcester, Mass., has cancelled a November 7 speaking engagement with Frances Kissling, president of Catholics for a Free Choice. Kissling, who habitually denounces Pope John Paul II as “authoritarian,” was to lecture on “abuse of power in the church” and her role in promoting pro-abortion feminism through United Nations programs.  Mary Hobgood, director of Women’s Studies at Holy Cross, who scheduled the speech, complained to the Boston Globe: “Feminists on Catholic campuses find this to be a difficult time. Many of us often do not feel secure on these campuses.” In fact, Jesuit campuses are notorious for their liberal, anti-papal intellectual environment.  However, the college president, Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., denounced Kissling’s “manipulative” style and “determined opposition to the Catholic Church and its leadership.” He said he supports “free speech” and “strong feminist positions” at Holy Cross. But reporters did not ask him to explain why a feminist program like Women’s Studies is even available at a Roman Catholic institution.  To read how Holy Cross describes its “mission” see:  https://www.holycross.edu/about/mission.htm   For Kissling’s admission to deceptive tactics see:  https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/jun/020604.html
