United Auto Workers Want Abortion, Contraception Insured

DETROIT, August 21, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The United Auto Workers union is demanding that car manufacturers insure their employees’ abortions and contraceptives—even if that means cutting down on bona fide health services.  During contract negotiations this past month, the union boldly asked General Motors Corp., Chrysler Group, and possibly Ford Motor Co., to “expand benefits related to reproductive services,” and to cover “professional fees for elective pregnancy termination.” Later, the union said more openly that it wants companies to pay for “elective [sic] or voluntary [sic] abortions.”  To date, 20 states have compelled insurers to pay for contraception. However, several […]

Study Links Child Aggression to Time in Day Care

SALT LAKE CITY, August 21, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Two new studies link aggressive, disobedient behaviour and increased anxiety and stress—in a minority of children—to extended time spent in daycare. The aggression study is by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and found 17% of daycare children more aggressive, disobedient and more engaged in conflict, regardless of family background, quality or type of care and temperament. The second study is from the University of Minnesota, and says shy children suffer increased levels of stress while in fulltime daycare—based on the children’s markedly higher levels of cortisol, a stress-sensitive […]

Two Priests Receive Warning from Mexican Government for Urging Catholics to Vote Pro-Life and Family

MEXICO CITY, August 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Mexican government has issued two warning letters to priests over their urging parishioners to vote only for pro-life and pro-family candidates.  Mexico’s “Mexico Possible” political party, which runs on a pro-abortion and pro-homosexual platform, has complained to the government that five priests and six bishops were violating Mexican law barring involvement in partisan politics by religious leaders.  Mexican Deputy Interior Minister Javier Moctezuma said that no charges would be brought against any of the churchmen since no evidence was found of any violation of Mexico’s electoral laws.  However, he added that two […]

Liberal MP Uses Race-Card to Bash Those Opposed to Homosexual ‘Marriage’

NORTH BAY, August 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Liberal MP Hedy Fry lashed out on Monday against suggestions of anything but full marriage rights for homosexual couples.  Fry, who is known to be a ferocious advocate for homosexual ‘rights’, made a comparison between racism and those opposed to homosexual ‘marriage’.  “It’s like suggesting you have water fountains or washrooms—they’re equally equipped, et cetera—but one is for blacks and one is for whites,” said Fry, chairwoman of the B.C. Liberal caucus and the former secretary of state for multiculturalism.  “You’re still segregating.”  Hilary White of Campaign Life Catholic told LifeSite, “The comparison […]

Morgentaler Sues New Brunswick for Higher Profits

FREDERICTON, August 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Abortion kingpin Henry Morgentaler is finally suing New Brunswick, the CBC reports. The octogenarian abortionist has complained since last October about the province’s refusal to subsidize his highly profitable private abortion clinics with provincial tax dollars, a refusal he calls “sexist, male chauvinist and oppressive.”  In its defence, filed in the Court of Queen’s Bench, New Brunswick says “medically necessary” medicare abortions are sufficiently available in the province’s hospitals. New Brunswick funds abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, as long as two doctors sign off. The province also says compliance with the […]
