OTTAWA (LSN) – According to a Statistics Canada study released Tuesday, women in the hectic 1990s who are less likely than ever before to take a break in their careers. And those who do take leave (usually to raise children) are likely to return to work faster than than they were even in the late 1980s. Sadly, the study noted that economic and career concerns have are outstripping family considerations. Mothers have noted they are now forced to work outside the home just to make ends meet. NORWAY – (LSN) Eight parties are participating in today’s elections in Norway. Among the contenders the Christian People’s Party stands alone against the culture of death. Founded in 1933 the party, headed by Kjell Magne Bondevik, is opposed to abortion, artificial insemination and homosexual marriages. Please pray for their success.

CALCUTTA (LSN) – Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Vatican’s secretary of state, spoke at Mother Teresa’s funeral on Saturday on behalf of pope John Paul II. There he defended the nun against critics of her anti-abortion stance, and urged her followers to take up where the missionary had left off. He praised her committment to “the defenceless unborn.”

ATLANTA (LSN) – Speaking at the Christian Coalition’s annual conference the coalition’s new president, former Reagan Cabinet member Don Hodel, said schools should teach sexual abstinence and the difference between right and wrong. He called for a new morality in government, urging political leaders to address the religious lobbying group’s concerns about abortion, gambling and homosexuality. VANCOUVER (LSN) – B.C. Supreme Court Justice W.H. Davies has ordered the BC College of Teachers to approve Trinity Western University’s application for accreditation of its teacher education program. Last summer, The BC College of Teachers voted 17-1 to refuse certification to TWU teacher graduates unless they took their final year at Simon Fraser University due to Trinity’s community standards document. CANADA (LSN) – “Catholics of Vision: Canada” is a nominally Roman Catholic group calling for liberal changes in Church doctrine, including changing attitudes towards contraception and abortion. The group has fallen far short of its goal to get 100,000 signatures on a petition calling for changes in the Church. In a message to the Canadian bishops, they said, “Any contention that the 5,910 responses indicate minimal support for the substance of the statement must be rejected.”

OTTAWA (LSN) – Sue McGarvie, host of the vulgar radio call-in show, Sex With Sue, is also a member of the Sex Therapy Council of Canada. McGarvie has lobbied the provincial and federal governments for a task force to look at the quality of sex education programs across the country and offer universal guidelines for schools, health clinics and parents. The research has produced a new vitamin “insistol”, which could prevent spina bifida in newborns, for the 30 percent of women for whom folic acid is ineffective.

CAPE TOWN (LSN) – Since the legalization of abortion on February 1st of this year over 7,000 South Africans have had their children killed by abortion. Health Minister Nkosazana Zuma proudly announced the morbid news proporting that women were saved from trying to obtain unsafe pregnancies. “So far, 7,069 women have terminated pregnancies up to June 1997,” Zuma told reporters.
