SWEDEN ALLOWS HOMOSEXUAL COUPLES TO ADOPT CHILDREN EVEN FOR FOREIGN ADOPTIONS

STOCKHOLM, June 6, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The socialist-led Swedish parliament approved legislation Wednesday to allow homosexual couples to adopt children jointly, even in cases of foreign adoption.  The move prompted homosexual activists to target homosexual marriage.  Sweden allowed homosexuals legally registered partnerships in 1995.  AP reports that Sweden and fellow Nordic nations Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland already recognize legal partnerships between homosexuals, but only Denmark and Iceland allowed adoption.  The law will likely take effect next year.  See the AP coverage:  http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020605/ap_on_re_eu/sweden_gay_adoptions_4

STUDY: ONE IN FOUR AUSTRALIAN WOMEN TO BE CHILDLESS

CANBERRA, June 6, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) social trends report said Australian fertility rates have fallen below replacement levels since 1976.  The ABS report warns that the situation will lead to population decline and also warns that the falling birthrate coupled with increased life expectancy will lead to a rapidly ageing population.  “The ageing of the population will change the ratio of old to young, and the proportion of the population who are of working age,” said the report. “These shifts will affect many areas of social and economic activity, forcing change not only in […]

AUSTRALIAN BILL SEEKS TO BAN COERCING WOMEN INTO ABORTION

CANBERRA, June 5, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Under legislation proposed in Australia today, husbands, boyfriends, parents or anyone else who coerced a woman into abortion would face up to 10 years in jail.  The bill also seeks to ensure that women who seek abortion receive independent counselling.  She said, “I and others consider that people who have a financial interest are not sufficiently dispassionate about advising women of their options.”  The bill would also remove the potential 10-year jail penalty faced by women who have abortions and replace it with a token one-month prison term.  However, it retains the 10-year penalty […]

PRO-ABORTION LEADER ADMITS MISLEADING SUPPORTERS WITH FEAR TACTICS

WASHINGTON, June 4, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Frances Kissling, president of the pro-abortion group Catholics for a Free Choice (CFFC), admitted in an interview with USA Today that pro-abortion groups knowingly mislead their supporters. In the interview published Tuesday, Kissling said “I don’t like to say it because we’re supposed to keep people scared” about the possibility that Roe vs. Wade could be reversed, “But the country has reached an accommodation: Abortion is going to be regulated, and it’s going to be legal.”  CFFC is an anti-Catholic, pro-abortion group as well as a front group for large, U.S., anti-Catholic foundations including […]
