CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER CONFRONTS POLITICIAN WITH HIS FAITH

PHOENIX, Arizona, Aug 11 (LSN) – The Catholic Sun, a diocesan newspaper reacted to Democratic Representative Ed Pastor’s pro-abortion vote by telling him to change his vote or else “he ought to disavow his Catholic faith.” On August 6 the paper wrote, “He cannot possibly, in good conscience,  reconcile his faith and his stance.”  Catholic Sun associate publisher Christopher Gunty revealed that Pastor voted to allow Clinton’s veto of a law banning partial-birth abortion. “The fact is that this issue is clearly wrong, and it’s so clearly murder,” said Gunty.

CIDA REAFFIRMING ABORTION VIA “GENDER EQUALITY”

OTTAWA, Aug 10 (LSN) – The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has invited both Canadians and non-Canadians to give their views on a draft Gender Equality policy, a policy which bases itself on conforming to the dictates of the UN Women’s conference and thus promotes abortion. TIDE TURNING FOR LIFE IN U.S.?

ORLANDO, Florida, Aug 10 (LSN) – Zenit news reported last week that statistics reported by the U.S.  National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) show that only 22% of Americans support unlimited access to abortion. NRLC Executive Director David N. O’Stein said that, “Judging from the statistics and their tendency toward life, the number of abortions is decreasing, while the pro-life movement is growing despite obstacles from the courts and the media.”

MORAL DECLINE IN ITALY EVIDENT IN POLL RESULTS RE COHABITATION

ROME, Aug 10 (LSN) – Italy’s largest Catholic magazine Famiglia Cristiana reported the disturbing results of a survey that revealed that 72% of Italians said that couples living together outside of marriage should be granted the same rights as married couples. Catholic World News quoted the Italian magazine calling the findings indicative of a “very real breakdown of reason” in society. “There are not and cannot be couples, and consequently families, that are real and proper outside the marriage between a man and a woman.”

U.S. HOUSE PASSES MEASURE REFUSING ADOPTION BY NON-MARRIED

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (LSN) – Late Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a spending bill for the District of Columbia which included an amendment by Rep. Steve Largent which forbade any of the money to be “used to carry out any joint adoption of a child between individuals who are not related by blood or by marriage.” While it is unclear if the Senate would pass the bill, President Clinton promised to veto the bill if it still contained the adoption restriction. Practicing homosexuals were outraged over the amendment as it would prohibit homosexual couples from adopting.
