KENTUCKY DISTRICT DEBATES EQUATING BIRTH CONTROL WITH ABORTION

WILDER, Kentucky, June 20, 2002 (LSN.ca) – A proposal to recognize that birth control pills have abortifacient side-effects, and to reject $170,000 in federal Title X funds that pay for local family planning services, was narrowly defeated last night after a heated debate in the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Board.  Board chairman Greg Kennedy broke a 13-13 tie vote, explaining: “I believe it was going to disrupt services to the people that need and rely on the health department the most. … When you mix politics with medicine, you get very bad medicine.”  Kentucky Right to Life, which is […]

HOUSE REPUBLICANS REVIVE PARTIAL-BIRTH BAN

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 20, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday revived their attempts to secure a ban on partial-birth abortion.  The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Steve Chabot, an Ohio Republican and chairman of the House Judiciary Constitution subcommittee, says the new bill’s sharper definition of partial-birth abortion will satisfy both critics and courts. “We have every reason to believe the Supreme Court should uphold this,” Mr. Chabot said.  The Supreme Court in 2000 overturned a Nebraska partial-birth abortion ban, frustrating congressional pro-lifers promoting a national version, reports the Washington Times. Prior to the Supreme Court ruling, […]

Artificial procreation for singles or homosexual couples is disallowed. ROME, June 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The Italian lower Chamber of Deputies passed legislation on artificial procreation today which has some of the world's most life-respecting characteristics. It also respects the rights of children conceived unnaturally via artificial procreation to at least have a father and a mother. US SENATE REJECTS PRO-ABORTION AND ANTI-FAMILY ASPECTS OF UN DOCUMENT

WASHINGTON, June 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The US Senate approved two protocols contained within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), rejecting other parts of the convention that were disrespectful of life and family.  The CRC has come under fire by the Bush administration for its promotion of abortion under the guise of “reproductive health services” and its placing the rights of children over those of parents.  The Senate approved the Protocol on the Sale of Children which criminalizes such activities as the outright sale of children, pornography and the prostitution of children. Also approved was […]

13 ANGLICAN BISHOPS OPPOSE SAME-SEX BLESSINGS

VANCOUVER, June 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Thirteen Anglican bishops from British Columbia to Newfoundland expressed “regret” on Monday over the Diocese of New Westminster’s decision last weekend to provide official blessings to same-sex unions. The bishops said matters of moral teaching and Church order and discipline are beyond the jurisdiction of a single diocese acting alone.  “We regret the decision of the Diocese of New Westminster to move independently toward the blessing of same-sex unions,” the bishops said, saying that the move is in conflict with the “moral teaching of the Holy Scripture and the tradition of the universal Church.” […]

Ultrasound for sex-selected abortions cited as cause   WUHAN, China, June 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) – China is increasingly being forced to confront a demographic nightmare that threatens to destabilize society and undermine meager steps toward freedom in the totalitarian country.  “Over the next two decades, as many as 40 million young Chinese men won’t be able to marry, settle down and start families. There won’t be enough wives to go around,” says a feature in USA Today. Historically, governments have dealt with troublesome, unmarried men by tightening the reins of government, sending men off to war, banishing them to far-away […]
