WINNIPEG CHILD WELFARE AGENCY BATTLES TO ABORT BABY

WINNIPEG, Mar 12 (LSN) – New reports on the story of Winnipeg Child and Family Services (CFS) flying a 16-year-old girl to Toronto for an abortion on   Monday despite the vehement objections of her other, indicate the agency’s role   in the affair is even more objectionable than it first appeared to be.  When the mother suspected last week that workers in the CFS agency were pressuring her daughter into procuring an abortion, the mother terminated the voluntary agreement that placed her daughter in temporary custody of the CFS. When the agency learned that the mother was against the […]

CANADIAN SUICIDE DOCTOR PLEADS GUILTY

TORONTO, Mar 12 (LSN) – Maurice Genereux, the first doctor in Canada convicted of assisting suicide, pleaded guilty today to four charges of professional misconduct before a disciplinary hearing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The regulatory body may permanently strip Genereux of his license to practice medicine in the province.  Critics of the College note that the police charged Genereux with assisted suicide in June 1996 and the College is just now considering punitive measures. Euthanasia activists have been slow to come to the support of their first Canadian hero due to other legal entanglements. In […]

LEGAL PERSECUTION HEAPED ON U.S. PRO-LIFERS

LYNCHBURG, Va., Mar 11 (LSN) – Rev. Flip Benham, the director of Dallas-based Operation Rescue, will turn 50 behind bars in April while serving a six month jail sentence for organizing a protest at a public high school in Lynchburg.  Rev. Benham and his attorney were astounded by the unprecedented severity of the sentence for trespassing.  Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Petty described the incident as an “almost-assault on the school” in justifying the sentence.  A federal judge in Dallas last month upheld a $10 million judgment against Rev. Benham and other anti-abortion protesters for picketing outside an abortionist’s home for […]

UNION FORCES HOMOSEXUAL BENEFITS ON CAR COMPANIES

TORONTO, Mar 11 (LSN)—Yesterday, Chrysler Canada was ordered to provide same-sex spousal benefits to its employees by arbitrator Ross Kennedy.  The case against Chrysler was brought forward by the Canadian Auto Workers union headed up by Buzz Hargrove.  The granting of homosexual benefits by Chrysler leaves only one of the “big three” car companies free from pandering to homosexuals.  General Motors offered same-sex benefits in 1996. Ford does not provide same-sex benefits but is currently being challenged on their stand.  “I would hope that Ford Motor Company of Canada would now follow suit as well,” said Hargrove.

ALBERTA LIMITS PAYMENTS TO EUGENICS VICTIMS

EDMONTON, Mar 11 (LSN) – Alberta Premier Ralph Klein has opted for the extreme measure of invoking the Constitution’s notwithstanding clause to restrict compensation for 700 people who were made infertile under government sterilization policies between 1928 and 1972. The legislation unveiled yesterday would force the courts to limit possible future court awards to a maximum of $150,000 for each of the 700 victims who were classed as “mental defectives”. They were made sterile on the order of a government-appointed   eugenics board to ensure they could not produce “defective children.” This very rare use of the notwithstanding clause would […]

US SUPREME COURT JUSTICE SPEAKS ON LIFE ISSUES

WASHINGTON, Mar 10 (LSN) – In an address to the American Medical Association yesterday,  Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Congress, rather than the Supreme Court should decide on issues such as abortion and physician-assisted suicide. “You want a right to abortion, create it the way most rights are created in a democracy: pass a law,” he said. “If you don’t want it, pass a law the other way. And if you want a right to (physician-assisted) suicide, the same.”  Emphasizing that it is not the role of the justices to make good interpretations of bad legislation, Scalia noted, “the […]
