REFORMERS ENSURE LIBERALS CAN’T AVOID DEBATE IN PARLIAMENT

OTTAWA, June 10 (LSN) – On Monday night, Reform MPs managed to pass a motion stripping the Liberal government of its power to invoke “closure” to shut down parliamentary debate. They intended the measure to send a message to the Liberals, none of whom was present in the House at the time. It will allow opposition MPs the opportunity to prolong debate on government business. The Government has threatened to force the House to remain in session until 4 a.m. June 23, to break the “filibuster” tactic.

KEN CAMPBELL’S VRIEND AD GOES TO HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

TORONTO, June 10 (LSN) – In response to pro-life evangelist Rev. Ken Campbell’s full-page Globe and Mail advertisement condemning the Supreme Court’s Vriend decision, gay activist Philip Shea has demanded punitive action from the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC).  Shea described the April 18 advertisement as a “hateful full-page diatribe aimed at lesbians and gay men.” One-third of the ad was written by John McKellar, leader oaf group called Homosexuals Opposed to Pride Extremism—homosexual Canadians who “love Canada, respect its traditions, institutions and values,  and reject the radical demands for “rights” based on sexual orientation.”  In his official complaint Shea […]

SERGEANT OBJECTS TO VACCINE FROM ABORTED BABIES

HITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo., June 9 (LSN) – Sgt. Todd Parish, a pro-life Christian, has objected to the mandatory vaccination of his children at an army base school in Germany, because he says the vaccinations were derived from the tissues of aborted babies. According to Parish, chicken pox, hepatitis A and rubella vaccines are all objectionable for this reason. Donna Cary, a spokesperson for Varivax (chicken pox vaccine)  makers Merck & Co. Inc., said, “Merck does not see this as fetal tissue, per se Someone took a small sample of cells and put them on a petri dish 30 […]

CORONER ALLEGES KEVORKIAN VICTIM’S BODY “MUTILATED”

DETROIT, June 9 (LSN) – Oakland County medical examiner L.J. Dragovic says the body of Joseph Tushkowski,  a recent victim of Kevorkian-assisted-suicide, was mutilated. Dragovic also judged the death a homicide.  “They didn’t remove his sweater. They just pulled it up, then cut the belly,” Dragovic told reporters on Monday. “This is not a situation to be compared with the highly skilled act of organ procurement surgery…. We’re talking about a chopped-up body.”  Kevorkian announced recently he had “donor organs” available for transplant from a recent assisted-suicide victim.

C.R.T.C. HOLDING PUBLIC FORUMS ON TV PROGRAMMING

OTTAWA, June 9 (LSN) – In a recent press release, the Canadian Family Action Council alerted concerned citizens that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is holding public forums to discuss programming. The Family Action Council encourages Canadians to support Christian broadcasting, which is subject to arbitrary “balance” requirements by the CRTC, in order to prevent single-faith broadcasting.  Pro-family Canadians have long argued that there is a demand for more wholesome programming on Canadian airwaves; and it appears the CRTC initiative provides an opportunity to make the case once more. Written comments on Public Notice CRTC 1998-44, Canadian Television […]

ABORTION PUSHING FEMINIST GROUP REFUSES FUNDING IN PROTEST

OTTAWA, June 9 (LSN) – At the annual convention of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women (NAC), the nation’s leading feminist group decided temporarily to refuse the government’s offer of 8 million tax-payer dollars for the coming year, protesting an accountability requirement the government introduced this spring. The federal government now requires that NAC submit the plans of their projects for consideration before funding is granted. NAC also demanded that their funding be increased from to $30 million per year. Women’s groups representing the concerns of mainstream Canadian women, such as REAL Women of Canada, are denied […]

KEVORKIAN OFFERS VICTIM’S ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 8 (LSN) – On Sunday, assisted-suicide pioneer Jack Kevorkian announced at a news conference that he had the kidneys of his most recent victim, Joseph Tushowski of Las Vegas, Nevada,  available for transplant. Kevorkian claimed to have received 20 calls from interested parties including three from doctors.  The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office is looking into the situation. Medical experts said when Kevorkian first floated the idea earlier this year that because of Kevorkian’s assisted suicide methods,  organs from his victims would be useless for transplant.

CLINTON ADMINISTRATION REFUSES TO INTERVENE IN ASSISTED SUICIDES

WASHINGTON, June 8 (LSN) – On Friday, Attorney General Janet Reno forbade agents of the US Drug Enforcement Administration to act on the advice of their chief, Thomas Constantine, who warned doctors that the DEA would revoke the licenses of those who prescribed lethal drugs under Oregon’s new law permitting physician-assisted suicide. Reno said that “There is no evidence the Congress, in the Controlled Substances Act, intended to assign DEA the novel role of resolving (what the Supreme Court last year called) the ‘earnest and profound debate about the morality, legality and practicality of physician-assisted suicide.’”  Lori Hougens of the […]
