OTTAWA, Jan 13 (LifeSiteNews) – Canada’s publicly funded broadcaster, CBC, aired a “propaganda piece” promoting assisted suicide on the January 11 edition of its National Magazine. “Life and Death in Oregon,” covered one man’s journey in his decision to choose legal assisted suicide in the state of Oregon, the only jurisdiction in the world where assisted suicide is legal. Alex Schadenberg, president of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition of Ontario (EPCO)  told LifeSite that while the program gave a pretense of presenting both sides it was in fact “propaganda piece in favour of assisted suicide.”  Schadenberg notes that the program does not give fair representation to palliative care, the true option for ‘dying with dignity.’ “Those who watched the program hoping to become informed on the contentious issue of assisted suicide would most likely go away thinking that the two options are assisted suicide or an undignified death,” said Schadenberg.

EPCO is challenging CBC to produce a program on the other side of the debate. “If the CBC National Magazine is truly interested in giving both sides of an issue then it is obligated to producing an equally compelling production of one person’s dignified death with excellent palliative care.” Good palliative care, says Schadenberg, “provides true death with dignity and doesn’t have any of the negative repercussions associated with legal assisted suicide,  such as the pressure placed on disabled people to ‘choose’ assisted suicide rather than offering them excellent care.”
