WASHINGTON, D.C., September 29, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards says she's “never heard of” a baby surviving an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility.

“Ms. Richards, if a child survives an abortion attempt, should it be given nourishment and medical care?” Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, asked Richards during today’s hearing into Planned Parenthood’s alleged trafficking of aborted baby body parts.

“I’ve never heard of such a circumstance happening,” said Richards, leaving a silence broken several seconds later by DeSantis’ stunned “Really?”

“Yes. I mean, I certainly… I can say that at Planned Parenthood, I am not aware of a circumstance — we don’t provide abortions after viability. So… but it certainly, in my experience at Planned Parenthood, we haven’t ever had that kind of circumstance.”

“But you would say that medical care would be in order at that point?” asked the congressman. “Forget Planned Parenthood, just generally?”

Richards answered in the affirmative. “Well, again, I want to be responsible for Planned Parenthood and what we do there, and certainly in that situation in, which again has never occurred that I know of…that baby should as the mother should, get appropriate medical care from the physician. And would.”

Richards' answer is a stark departure from what a Planned Parenthood lobbyist described in Florida. in 2013, lobbyist Alisa Laport Snow — representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates — told state legislators that in the case of a baby born alive after a failed abortion, “we believe that any decision that's made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”
