OTTAWA, Feb 9 (LifeSiteNews.com) A federal panel looking into the application of charity law in Canada says that charities should be able to engage in non-partisan political activity. Headed by former NDP leader Ed Broadbent, the panel said that current policy governing charities is badly formulated, poorly understood and potentially highly arbitrary in its application.” The panel suggested that parliament, not the courts, should have the authority to remove charitable status.
If the panel’s suggestions are implemented, the reinstatement of charitable status to pro-life groups such as Human Life International and Alliance for Life may be possible.
