CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (LifeSiteNews) — Parents of girls at Charlotte Catholic High School allege that a priest asked the young teens inappropriate sex-related questions during confession.
The concerned parents who sounded the alarm have indicated that they are dissatisfied with the response from the diocese headed by Bishop Michael Martin.
The priest “asked my daughter if she’s ever had a sexual relationship with a boy,” one mother told local news outlet WCNC.
Another said her daughter was discussing unrelated issues when the priest interrupted to explore questions about the girl’s sexual behaviors.
“She said, ‘Mom, I was telling him about missing Mass and lying to you and fighting with my brother … and we were not talking about anything sexual at all and he just asked me that,’” the mom said.
Her husband explained that their daughter was asked directly about masturbation.
“The Diocese of Charlotte looked into complaints raised about conversations that occurred during confession at Charlotte Catholic High School last December,” the diocese said in a statement to WCNC. “No violations of our conduct policies were identified.”
“The whole letter felt like we were being gaslighted,” one of the mothers told WCNC. “We understand what is appropriate and inappropriate.”
Another said she felt dismissed by the bishop: “He didn’t discuss any of the issues.”
Last year, Bishop Martin, who notoriously banned the Latin Mass in his diocese, sided with Charlotte Latin School over its expulsion of children after their parents complained about the school’s adoption of woke ideology, including graphic, sexually explicit LGBT books.
The Charlotte diocese requested permission from the state Supreme Court to submit an amicus brief in support of the school’s freedom to terminate enrollment of students whose parents opposed the school’s promotion of a woke ideological agenda.
