CHINA, Aug 23 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Less than a month after Tibetan allegations that China is imposing its one child policy on their people, a report has come out of that nation about population control officials drowning a “botched abortion” in full view of onlooking villagers. According to The Scotsman yesterday, “a gruesome scandal is unfolding in China involving family planning officials who drowned a new-born baby in a rice paddy hours after they induced the labour of his mentally sub-normal mother.”

The officials apparently ordered the father to dispose of his child, but a female doctor found him and gave him medical attention. But, “when Dr Liu returned home with the baby, five officials of the family planning commission were waiting for her. The outraged villagers made the murder public, soliciting the assurances of the police “that the guilty officials will be brought to justice,” reports The Scotsman.

Several recent reports suggest that China is easing its one-child policy or that implementation of the program is limited. The Washington Times in May wrote that “the policy is still on the books … but its reach in many places has been limited by corruption, economic development … and the growing unwillingness of the Chinese people to tolerate controls on their personal lives.” In June, however, Stephen Mosher of the Population Research Institute confirmed the ongoing application of the policy. Furthermore, the (London) Times reported yesterday that the Chinese government is clamping down on bigamy, saying that China’s Xinhua news agency gave as the reason for this priority the threat bigamy poses to the success of the country’s one-child policy.
