WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar 5, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Christianity Today, a leading evangelical magazine in America, has published a list of “recommendations for President Bush and the 107th Congress,” and has placed pro-life reform at the top of its list. “Hands down, prolife initiatives topped our list. The prolife movement holds out hope for passage of a federal ban on partial-birth abortion and the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act. These two measures will be important steps toward restoring our national commitment to unborn human life,” wrote the editors in their March 5 editorial. They also expressed hope for the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

At the same time, however, they encouraged all Christians to promote pro-life ethics regardless of what legislation exists at any given time. They cited Vicki Thorn, founder and director of Milwaukee’s Project Rachel, who said, “It’s not about changing the law. It’s about changing the country”. They concluded: “Profound change in American culture is already underway. Christians must do their part to steer the culture even more in a direction that fully values all human life. … If our values change, so will our public laws.”
