EDMONTON, Oct 28 (LSN) – On November 4th and 5th Canada’s Supreme Court will hear the case brought by a homosexual worker against his former employer, a Christian college that objected to his teaching regarding homosexuality. Delwin Vriend was fired in 1991 by The King’s University College in Edmonton, Alberta.

Vriend had sued, saying that the province’s human rights act violated the federal Charter of Rights because it does not ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The court agreed and ordered the provincial legislature to include protection for homosexuals in the human rights act. But the Alberta Court of Appeals overturned that decision in February.

The Supreme Court will hear the case next week and Christians across North America have been asked to pray for a favourable outcome. The right of religious institutions to maintain their beliefs is at stake.
