HAMILTON, Mar 13, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The controversy over having former US President Bill Clinton come to Canada to speak at a fundraiser for a Catholic hospital has been raised a notch by the Hamilton city entertainment board. An article in the Hamilton Spectator yesterday had the Hamilton Entertainment and Convention Facilities Inc. (HECFI) suggesting that the Clinton May 2 speech be moved from the Carmen’s Banquet Centre to Copps Coliseum. Since the 1,090 tickets for the speech sold out on the first day with an 800 person waiting list, the suggestion to move to the new venue – which seats 3,500 – will likely be taken very seriously by the Morgan Firestone Foundation which initiated the fundraiser for St. Joseph’s Hospital. HECFI has frozen May 2nd at Copps for the possible Clinton booking.
