CLONING STILL ALLOWED IN CANADIAN STEM CELL BILL SAYS MP PAUL SZABO

OTTAWA, April 4, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Liberal MP Paul Szabo, who has written a book on stem cell research and related technologies, told LifeSite today that human cloning is unfortunately still permitted by the current wording of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, Bill C-13, despite the successful passage of his amendment 13, which attempted to ban all types of cloning.  Last week, Mr. Szabo’s amendment to the creation of “a human clone by using any technique” passed in a narrow vote in the House.  However, Mr. Szabo notes that since the definition of cloning in the bill is still faulty, certain types of human cloning, such as pronuclei transfer cloning, would not be considered cloning at all by the legislation and thus would not be covered by his motion.
