NEW YORK, June 2 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Delegates from the developing, world known as the G77, at the United Nations’ Beijing+5 conference this week, have fought to include guarantees that “food and medicines must not be used as a tool for political pressure” exerted by the West for population control.  However, World Life League reports that the motion is being opposed by JUSCANZ, the powerful negotiating block of Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Rather than sever the strings of population control tied to humanitarian aid, JUSCANZ would merely “discourage the adoption of coercive measures.”

In related news, despite claims of “transparency”, United Nations negotiations around “reproductive rights” are taking place in secret, behind closed doors at the Beijing +5 meetings in New York.  The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-Fam) reports that pro-lifers at the meeting are most concerned with a new provision advanced by Mexico, the United States and the European Union that calls for abortion to be “more accessible.” Pro-life countries believe this violates the terms of the original Beijing Platform for Action as well as the Cairo Program of Action, both of which called for concerted efforts to reduce the number of abortions.

C-Fam warns that the new language also requires all health service providers to learn abortion procedures even if it would violate their religious beliefs. This would even apply to countries that do not allow abortion under any circumstances.
